Pema Lingpa Lineage

Through Amitābha Buddha’s compassion for sentient beings, he manifests in a fierce and wrathful form in order to subdue obstinate demonic beings. He summons their consciousness and grants empowerment through wrathful mantras, enabling them to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. In particular, in order to tame nāga kings, yakṣas, local earth spirits, and similar beings, he appears in the wrathful form of Hayagrīva.

Hayagrīva is red in color, with three faces and six arms. The right face is white, the left face is green, and the central face is red. All three faces are wrathful, with glaring eyes and bared fangs.

In his three right hands he holds:

• a vajra,
• a khaṭvāṅga staff,
• and a sword.

In his three left hands he holds:

• a vajra bell,
• a short vajra,
• and a vajra lasso.

His body is fully adorned with the ornaments of the charnel ground.

From his body radiate various blessing powers; his mind manifests various maṇḍalas; his body displays various mudrās; and his speech reveals various mantras. All of these dissolve into one’s own mind, body, speech, and wisdom, and even into one’s hair and pores, bestowing the blessing of great bliss and wisdom. Through this, the defilements and illnesses of body, speech, and mind are purified, as well as all kinds of obstacles to spiritual practice.
